Hello Colleagues
My name is Michael
Chapman. My field is South African Literature, in which I pursue issues such as: how to talk about literature in a politically demanding society; and how to apply the category 'postcolonialism' not only to North/South, or South/North conversations,
but also to South/South interchange.
I am affiliated as a research professor to the Durban University of Technology. At the same time, I
remain a professor emeritus and fellow of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and a fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. I am a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), and remain the Editor-in-Chief of
the accredited journal, Current Writing: Text and Reception in Southern Africa.
Among my publications are the 550-page history, Southern African Literatures (1996; 2003), Art Talk, Politics Talk (2007), and Green in Black-and-White Times: Conversations with Douglas Livingstone (2016).
